I'm officially on The World Race!

(A bit delayed, I know…sorry!)

We launched from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va on Tuesday, August 2, where we had our final few days of training before beginning our 24 hr journey to Kenya on Friday, August 5! After a few days of rest in Nairobi, we experienced the 10 hour roller coaster of a bus ride to Busia!

Last week, we started doing ministry…door to door evangelism in the mornings & hospital visits in the evenings. In just 3 days, we saw 14 people come to Christ! At church this past Sunday, our team leader rachelrittman.theworldrace.org, brought the Word on seeking Jesus & not His things. Twas good!

Yesterday, we took some of the youth in the church to Lake Victoria to have a day at the beach! It was beautiful! We helped local fishermen pull in their nets & we were led up a mountain by the local kids to a stunning view of the lake!

Today, we were supposed to start back ministry, but Reverend Gideon shared his heart for reaching the street kids here in Busia. A few of the team went out this morning to try to find some of the kids and find out where they slept. They were soon overwhelmed by a group of about 40+ street children. We are taking them breakfast tomorrow. We took one of them to the hospital with a leg wound. We came to find out that she was run over by a trailer 10 months ago. Both of her parents died when she was very young. Her brother's wife is very cruel to her and won't allow her to stay in the family home. She is 14 and has been living on the streets since she was 9. Her name is Adhaimbo.

Reverend Gideon has a vision to create homes for these children. Since we've found that the need is so great here & not much is being done about it, we're trying to figure out what we can do short & long term to deal with this issue in Busia.

Please pray for Adhaimbo & for the leadership here. We will be leaving in 2 weeks…pray for resources & direction to care for these kids.

Internet is slow here, but I'm going to try to pump out a few more blogs & post them Friday so you can get more of an idea of what's going on!

I haven't been able to get any of my videos to load, but here is a video of where we're staying that I helped my teammate Peggy make:

One response to “Launch + Kenya”

  1. Hi Ashley! How great to read that you arrived and are out meeting people and bringing them the message of Christ. The ministry to the street children was especially touching and know in the weeks ahead you will have an impact on young lives – planting seeds of faith. Enjoyed the video too – fun to see where you are staying, etc. Take care and know prayers accompany you as you spread the love of Christ.
