Well…I’ve made it almost 6 months on the Race! Before I heard about the World Race, I looked into doing other missions trips and programs but the amount of money they cost always intimidated me. Then I saw the World Race, which was about double or triple the amount of other trips…but when I saw $14,800, I wasn’t intimidated at all. Sure, it was a lot of money, but I had a reassuring peace that if this is where God wanted me, He would provide the way.

On the first month of the Race while we were in Kenya, I remember asking God if this was really where I was supposed to be. I questioned where He had brought me. Since then, I’ve seen God moving in the countries we’ve traveled to and the people I’ve been with and I haven’t doubted that I’m supposed to be here since. I’ve seen Muslim villagers in Kenya come to the Lord because we took time to visit their house and share Him with them. I’ve been a part of children living on the street being fed and clothed and given a home in Kenya and the Philippines. I’ve helped to educate children and teenagers so that through better education, they (and someday their children) can have a better life. I’ve spent time with women involved in prostitution in Thailand…showing them that someone cares more about who they really are than what their bodies look like. I’ve been able to worship with Christians in Africa and Asia. I’ve been able to come alongside new Christians and older Christians, who are obeying the Lord and just need some encouragement and support in their ministry. I’ve not only seen a change in the places I’ve been to, but I’ve seen a change in my squad and myself as well. One thing I didn’t really realize when I signed up for the World Race was that living in community 24/7 would change my life more than the traveling to 11 countries. I’ve been blessed with amazing teammates and squad mates – people who give me grace when I need it, but won’t allow me to stay complacent. They are people who challenge me to do more and be more because they genuinely love me and want the most for my life. Being in such an environment is allowing me to grow and develop in my relationship with the Lord and life in general that I know couldn’t have happened in “regular life” or would have taken a lot longer to happen.

I’ve been so blessed with my time on the Race, but I’m not finished. We’re only at the halfway mark! We still have 5 more countries to go. We’ll be leaving Cambodia on the 4th of February to go to Malaysia. In March, we’ll be in China. Then, April –June we’ll be ministering in Ukraine, Romania and one other country in Eastern Europe.

I have great news: I'm officially FULLY FUNDED! I want to thank all of you who have been faithfully supporting me through finances, encouragement and prayer. It has meant the world to me. Please pray for my squad and myself. Many still have money to raise by February 1st so that they can continue this journey. We serve a God who provides for His people and I am trusting that no matter what happens, it is ultimately a part of His grand plan.

Thank you all for the love and support. Thank you for the encouraging emails, messages, and comments. They mean more to me than you know!

If you have time, visit a few of my squad mates blogs and encourage them! (http://theworldrace.org/?tab=participants&group=11WR0801)

Talk to you in Malaysia!

  1. Bless your faithfulness! God will continue to bless you as you bless others. Although we have never met, I saw your card at Lee’s Shoes in Garner, and knew that God wanted me to encourage you. I hope I have the honor of meeting you one day. I am the mother of three children I adopted when I lived in India — they were 2, 3, and 4 when I adopted them, and today they are in their 40’s — they live here in the US. Jenny is married and has a beautiful daughter age 4. Tommy lives in Orlando and can be seen from time to time on the TV Show Dr. G Medical Examiner — he is her assistant. Heidi, came from Mother Theresa’s orphange — and was not expected to live — she just celebrated her 14th year of marriage. God is SO good, and I’m thrilled that you are spreading his goodness around the world.

  2. I am so proud of you, Ashley! I love seeing God provide. I can’t wait to keep following you and seeing what He does in and through you!
